In a wish to save my wonderful husband from too much mowing, {and because I love to plant} we have decided to kill off all the grass up on top. I will design a walking path around the existing Stargazing Lounge { so called because that is where we go to watch the sky. Living in such a remote spot gives us a spellbinding view of the heavens!} to the vegetable garden and around the pool to be. Right now we only have a terraced hole. Large enough for us to put in two air mattresses if the weather gets to hot and we have a waterfall planned also. I am hoping that the ongoing battle of the encroaching grass will take a hit with this idea. We are starting our killing phase now before the winter sets in. Spring will see us rent a sod remover and then add sand, bricks to outline the gardens and flagstone to fill the paths with. I should gain a nice walk about and more planting space! Yippee! Did I say how wonderful my husband is? He is the main earth mover since my back surgery a year ago. I will look for a youngster that is looking to earn some money to save his back though! :)

Spent the day in the garden trying to get all the bulbs in before winter sets in. There always seems to be one more thing to do around the place. Still trying to get all the boxes emptied from the move, and that was in June!! There is light at the end of the tunnel though and we just need to keep plugging away. It will be nice to be able to get in to our studio and finally get some new work done. Trying to get all of my digital images located, looking for two external hard drives with 30 years worth of work on them.... I have some backups but would like to find those drives. All for now, beautiful day in Pine Valley the trees have almost lost all their leaves and fall is here full force.
OK, My husband and I have taken a pinky swear to each add at least 2 posts a week. I am now down to one! We have retired from teaching art and are in the hectic process of remodeling our home in Pine Valley. Every time we seem near to being done, another thing crops up. After having added hardwood floors to our home, we are in the second tear up of said floors in the kitchen. Sigh. Some kind of leak either in our new plumbing or the water is wicking up through our cement floors where the footings were placed. Please, let the problem be solved soon. Currently we are waiting for the flooring guy, who we happen to like very much, come up and finish tearing our the cupped floor boards. Then keeping my fingers crossed, we find the problem and put the floor back together. I can only think good thoughts in that direction.
Steve spent the morning planting hundreds of new tulips in the garden nearest the driveway. Those with the existing daffodils, should give us a beautiful spring garden. It will be fun to be up here to watch it develop instead of going back and forth weekly from one home to another. Will try and add some pictures soon. |
